"Instant payout" usually means less than it says
Almost every casino advert promises fast or instant withdrawals. Very few say which part of the process they are timing. From the moment you press the button? From the moment the casino approves? Until the money is in your account? The difference can be days.
When we test a casino, we split each withdrawal into three stages and note the time of each one. The total, from request to money received, is the number on our casino cards.
Stage 1: the request
You choose an amount and a method and send the request. Many casinos then show the withdrawal as "pending" for a while, and during that time you can often cancel it and keep playing with the money. If you know you tend to do that, look for a setting that disables withdrawal reversal. Some casinos have one, and we note whether it exists.
Stage 2: the approval
This is the stage the casino controls, and where casinos differ most. The casino checks that your account is verified, that any bonus terms are met and that the deposit was used according to its rules. Some approve automatically within minutes. Others process withdrawals manually during office hours, so a request sent on Friday evening can wait until Monday.
The most common reason for a long wait is the identity check. If the casino asks for ID and proof of address only at your first withdrawal, the clock starts again when you upload the documents.
Stage 3: the transfer, and why Norway is different
Once approved, the method decides the rest. In most countries the obvious choice would be your bank card or a bank transfer. In Norway it is not that simple. Section 5 of the Gambling Act bans facilitating payments for gambling that does not have a Norwegian permit, and Norwegian banks therefore stop many card payments and transfers to and from these sites.

Kroner or euros: the hidden cost of currency conversion
If your casino account is held in euros, every withdrawal is converted before it reaches a Norwegian account. The amount you receive in kroner then depends on the exchange rate on the day of conversion, and sometimes on a conversion fee as well. Choosing a kroner account when you register avoids this. Where a casino only offers euros, check the fee section of its terms before you deposit.
Checklist: seven things to do before your first withdrawal
- Get verified early. Upload ID and proof of address straight after registering, not when you want your money.
- Use details that match your documents. A different spelling of your name or an old address is a common reason for a second document request.
- Withdraw using the same method you deposited with. Many casinos require it.
- Finish or skip the bonus. Clear the wagering requirement first, or play without a bonus.
- Read the withdrawal limits. Check the maximum per withdrawal and per week.
- Ask on a weekday if the casino processes withdrawals manually.
- Turn off reversible withdrawals if the setting exists.
